Ramble III

Ya, that kid is pretty much how I feel lately. I am pretty sick of the DMA department in general at good ol' HU. First off last year they added freaking broadcasting to the DIGITAL MEDIA ARTS department.. really broadcasting.. their showcase was even weaker than the film department's.
speaking of film.. Screw them. I had to change classes because there were two storyboarding and concept classes and one was for film and the other one was for animation... easy fix.. give it a new dang name..
Film students are always so concerned with their own ideas and own projects that they dont give a crap what is going on around campus, everyone must cease what they are doing and stop and listen to their stupid ideas that are being filmed in the middle of the darn mall.. I for one am sick of the entire DMA department all together. I mean animation is great and all, but I really want to be more of a flourishing artist, rather than a pretentious short film maker... I used to see animation as an art form, and actually do enjoy doing it, it's just the upper lever classes and work that has to be done on a computer with no paint or canvases in sight, surrounded by a bunch of home schooled kids who were locked in the closet and played video games all day in the middle of summer... it just looses it's appeal after a while, where as doing art for various companies, maybe even working right along side those geeky freaks in the making of something would be alright, but this slow progressive forceful clamp that has film and animation being made into one thing is all wrong. Just because they work in the same building and use some of the same materials, does not make film and animation equals. Animation, is obviously far more superior in story telling ability, artwork, technique, use of thought, and just all around more skill in just about everything that the even more freaking annoying film kids are...
So what i'm trying to say is that Graphic Design even tastes better coming out of my mouth than animation, or film does... so idk... deal with it.

Ramble II

Well.. this summer blows.. I am trying to find some sort of work, and in the mean time struggling to find some motivation to get my a in gear and actually do some work. I have started a few things, but getting the ball rolling is always the hardest part. I am working on a friend's tattoo right now, and considering getting one of my own.. Looking for some inspiration, but it will probably look like something from Ian miller, mixed with Escher, well hopefully, I mean I'm not as good as them, but that's what were gonna aim for.
In other news this summer sucks, oh I already said that.. But! I have a car, and next year at good ol' Huntington is gonna rock my socks, especially since all but one of my classes have to do with drawing ( although I normally try to make every class have something to do with drawing (my notes art will be coming soon)). Well this ramble is not nearly as theological or interesting as the other one, I guess I could talk about how my church is becoming a cult of technologically mind washed lemmings, but I'll save that for another night... toodles..

Seppuku -Ink
work in process

well I havent posed anything in a while and I figured I'd post what I've been working on lately.. to be honest i was at a stalemate and didn't do a whole lot other than my school work.. but now that that is done with it means inking all summer and diving into some Adobe Illustrator stuff. woo!
Well this piece started out as something crazy that I wanted to try and practice on my patterns and such, but then turned into a quite interesting idea. The figure committing seppuku is like satan unleashing all of his bondage onto man and it covers them in sin and blinds them and binds their arms. but through prayer we can be freed, such as the patterns that have been torn. Just a thought. I don't know what else to do but ill prolly put up a finished piece some time..

Judges
-digital

This was an assignment for class that we had to do using corel painter, a program which i despise, I much prefer photoshop, so that is what I used. I valued the piece of work rather than the assignment and really grew fond of this blue ghostlike character and wanted to make it seem like he was see through with these sort of darker organs inside of him that were suspended.
Overall I really like the idea of the project of creating something more realistic from children's drawings and especially like the monster theme.

Falling
-digital

This is a combination of photoshop and Corell Painter. I wanted to focus on a sigle color and I chose blue because it was the farthest from the mood I was in, I don't know where I got the idea, but I thought it would make a good album cover...
Abstract Face
-Digital

I found this random page on the intranets and someone created a webby painter program and I had some fun.
Bear
-Digital

Another attempt at the bamboo pad I just wanted to do something ridiculous and awesome and what is more ridiculous than bears?
Abstract Man
-Digital

This is one of my first pieces I did since getting a wacom tablet. I make a bunch of lines that I felt that went along with the music I was listening to at the time and then tried to make a picture out of it. It was pretty fun.

Owl
-Fine Point Sharpies, Spray Paint, Acrylic

This is the biggest piece I've done on my own. I did it my senior year of high school and was pretty proud of it, once again it was inspired by Ian miller as far as style, but the actual concept came to me in a dream of a mechanical bird with armor for feathers. the original concept got somewhat distorted, but it turned out ok.
Boba Fett
-Pen and ink

A big inspiration of mine from my childhood loving Star Wars, Boba was always my favorite character and I wanted to draw a rendition of my own

Murder of Crows
-Pen and Ink, water color, colored pencil

Main characters from a story that I'm working on. Top Left- the hooded machines that fight for the good of man named called The Crows. Bottom Left- Main character who wears a mask and whom I have yet to find a name for. Top Right- Mordecai the leader of what is left of the human army called the Crusaders. Bottom Right- A soldier of the Crusaders.
I hope to make this into either a graphic novel of some sort, or even an animation.

BT freaking BAM
-Prisma colored pencils

If you don't know what that means it stands for BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. I hope to someday get this signed by Sir Tommy Rodgers himself, only the most amazing artist and lead singer of the most amazing band to ever touch the earth with their mighty awesome power. Not to mention they are Vegan, so they have super powers too..

Ramble 1

So I've decided to start a little segment, which I will not deem weekly for if I set it to a schedule it will never be accomplished, therefore I deem it a once in a while rantsortathing. But anywhoo.. I really dont know if anything insightful will come from it but I'll try and keep stuff on topic....

Ok so I have realized that i am an overall negative person and I hate a lot of stuff. I think one of the things I hate the most are people. What was God thinking creating all these miserable meat sacs that only hate steal and kill their way to money only so that they can get laid. Is getting a girl to like you really the goal of human existence? We all check out the hot girl walking by and worry every morning what we are going to wear or what cologne that might catch some passer-by's attention or some dumb crap like that. Not that we should all be slobs or not dress nicely, but when do we start doing things for ourselves. Wear a dress shirt because You want to look your best. I really don't know where I'm going with this but I guess the title allows for this.
I want to be my own man and do whatever I want and not let anyone eses feelings or emotions get in the way of that. I don't just want to do art because it looks pretty or not even to simply teach a sunday school lesson or animate stupid clay things because people will be like cool I didn't think of that. I want to be the best artist that any man can be. There are those people that you just get the feeling that you want to impress them or like show that your opinions and talents would be put to good use in their eyes. Like in my history class for whatever reason I feel like when Smith asks a question I truly want to answer it and make him proud that I'm not just another one of those stupid freshmen that haven't a clue. The one man I want to honor and impress is in Heaven by the name of Mr. Ken Gaydos. Probably, well no thats a lie. THE most artistically influential man in my life whose words still ring in my head every time I draw, is someone that I want to glorify through my artwork and just simply show people that I was taught by one of the masters.
I have lost track at this point.
But still I want to rely on my arts as my lifestyle and make it a full time job. Not just in some cubicle or not some aspect of my life but my art will be my life. I want to be consumed in it and let it flow and not hold it back. I'm not doing it for anyone. Not my professors, or my friends or my university or my future job, but for myself and to create something beautiful.

Circles
-Ink and watercolor
My obsession with patterns continued with this piece and I have grown to like the odd shaped canvas. This was the first piece of art that I had sold a print of.

Dwarf
-Pen and Ink
Another work inspired by Ian Miller.

Morgoth- form J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion"
-Pen and Ink
A lot of this is pretty old stuff but I still like it, anywhoo..
I did this in a figure drawing class and we had to do a face so I got some inspiration from Ian Miller who, he and M.C. Escher, have heavily influenced my style.
Paisley
-Fine Point Sharpies
I got some sharpies and picked out the girliest colors and tried to make the most manly drawing.
I might submit it to Threadless and see what they think..

Nature Vs. Society
-Watercolor and Ink
Whenever I put this out on display people always tend to want to flip it over and look at it from the other perspective, which is very interesting to me that people would rather see from the city's point of view than that of Nature.

Still life of things on my desk
water color and ink.

Discovery of Nature

Man has created a very mechanical and structured world out of a wild and seemingly uncontrollable chaos. When we finally take the time to appreciate the nature that we are slowly destroying is when we can become human again.
